Entry to the home is via the courtyard, which incorporates are restful Japanese-style water garden and then through a dramatic 4.5m tall door. The spaciousness created by the high ceilings and open plan design is balanced by cosy nooks and the warmth of recycled blackbutt timber floors.

The design features two timber pavilions and a central landscape courtyard, one for living areas and parents retreat above and one for guests / children’s bedrooms linked by a suspended bridge.

The home in Hervey Bay, focuses on the long term benefits of using material and design to suit the particular coastal site.

The distinctive geometric lines of the house lend it a Japanese air. The house, designed around a 50 year old Moreton Bay ash tree, has been refreshed for these clients with solid timber floors, timber cabinetry, a pool deck and landscaping.

The beach house explores lightness, filtering natural breezes, layers of transparency and integrating indoor/outdoor spaces within dynamic patterns of light and shadow, being a simple frame to enable a contemporary sustainable lifestyle to unfold.

The lofty screen “Bahama Room”, links to internal living spaces. The room draws an ambiguous line between internal and external spaces to promote a strong connection to the outdoors.
